Dermal fillers are soft tissue fillers which are injected in the skin at different levels, to give either filling effects on the folds or wrinkles or to give a lifting effect to the face. They can also be used to augment some features & to do facial contouring for example to enhance lips or to create a more defined chin. They can be used to treat upper face, mid face, under eye area, lower face & neck. Dermal fillers can add volume in the deficient areas & it is made up of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in the skin, which makes the procedure very safe.
What are different types of fillers? Most of the fillers which we use today are made up of hyaluronic acid. Some Poly- L- lactic acid fillers, Calcium Hydroxylapatite fillers & PMMA fillers are also available.
Why do we need this treatment?Dermal fillers can be used to reduce the signs of ageing, facial contouring, and enhancement of some features like lip or nose augmentation. It can also be used to fill the deficit of volume because of ageing. So anybody who wants to look young or enhance his/her facial contours can undergo this treatment. There are some other indications like acne scarring, where dermal fillers have been found to be useful. Dermal fillers also help to hydrate the skin, by their hygroscopic properties, thus bringing an unmatched glow on the skin.
The results of dermal fillers are instant & there is no downtime. But in some patients a slight bruise can occur at the site of injection, which may persist for a few days. But just in case it happens, one can easily hide it using slight makeup. There can be slight redness, swelling and tenderness.
One can have over correction or asymmetry, mostly because of inexperience of the treating physician or over expectations of the patient. This can be easily corrected though with the help of hyalase injection. Sometimes rarely wound, infection or scarring may occur. This usually happens when the injection is injected in a vessel accidentally. Though this is very uncommon and rare with an experienced dermatologist. But again because the product which we use is biodegradable, this can be easily dealt with.
The difference between Botox and derma filler are:-
Botox is used for dynamic wrinkle. Like forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet.
Dermal filler are used for static wrinkle. Like corner of the mouth, cheeks and neck. These days’ dermal fillers are used for facial contouring and gives amazing results. Both the procedures are sometimes indicated in a single patient.
One must avoid heavy exercise for few day after the treatment.
One must not rub that particular area. Any redness or numbness should be informed to the dermatologist.
Avoid makeup soon after the treatment.
